When do I have to bring my laptop?

You are expected to bring your laptop every day. If you do not have a laptop, your teacher will provide one for the lesson.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Plug in your laptop to charge every night
  • Bring your laptop and charger to school every day
  • Remember your passwords and usernames
  • Save your work where you can find it again
  • Use a thumb drive, portable hard drive or cloud save to back up your work. Technological failure will not be accepted as a reason for missing work, late assignments, etc.
  • Use technology in a respectful, responsible way, as outlined in the Digital Devices and Online Services for Students Policy.
  • What do I do if I haves Policy.e a computer issue?

Some technical support will be available for common issues. You can talk to:

However many issues are beyond our ability to fix and may need to be referred to the point of sale or manufacturer.

How do I connect to the school WiFi?

Students should connect to the wifi network "detnsw" while they are at school. When prompted, you should enter the username user.name@detnsw (for example, john.smith1@detnsw) and your regular password.

Do I still need to bring paper books?

Yes, your subjects will still require you to use a paper exercise book when technology is not the best tool for learning.

Who can reset my password?

All teachers have the ability to reset your Department of Education password through the Education Management Utility. However we don't have the ability to reset laptop passwords, or provide usernames and passwords for external services (e.g. Quizlet). It is your responsibility to manage these passwords. There are several services that can help you with this, including:

My friend can't log on. Can I log on for them?

No. This is a violation of the Online Communication Services Policy and may result in negative consequences for you and your friend. Never share your log on or password with another person.

What do I do if I see technology being used in inappropriate ways?

According to the Online Communication Services Policy, students have a responsibility to report inappropriate use of technology to a teacher or other staff member. This will help us keep you safe and happy online.
